a Spring-time light & airy wedding at Franciscan Gardens in San Juan Capistrano
If you’re looking for a San Juan Capistrano wedding photographer who can’t stop talking about the light in this town, you’ve found her.
This wedding at Mission Basilica and Franciscan Gardens might be one of my favorite days I’ve ever had the privilege to shoot. I’m still thinking about it! The morning started soft and easy. The bride got ready in the Floraison Bridal Loft, all natural light and quiet excitement. Meanwhile, the groom got dressed in the Franciscan Gardens suite just down the road.
There’s something about those first few hours of a wedding day that sets the tone for everything after. This one was calm, warm, and full of laughter from the very first frame.
As for the ceremony, I’ll say it plainly: this might be the most beautiful church wedding I’ve ever photographed.
The interior of the Basilica gave me the most gorgeous warm, light and airy tones to work with — every frame practically edited itself. If you’re considering Mission Basilica for your ceremony, know that it is as stunning in person as it looks in photos. 
After the ceremony, we wandered over to Mission San Juan Capistrano for the couple’s portraits, and this is where things got really fun. The gardens made every detail of their outfits pop. The architecture gave us backdrop after backdrop of texture and warmth.
The bride, for the record, gave full model energy — not a single awkward pose in the bunch. This couple’s love was so easy to feel through the lens that I barely had to direct them at all.
Like can we talk about how beautiful and natural she is in front of the camera?!
Every formal detail at the Franciscan Gardens reception was gorgeous. This kind of space that does a lot of the heavy lifting for a photographer, honestly.
Soft, elegant, and effortlessly romantic. This lent for dreamy magical after dinner events such as the first dance and parent dances. Speeches were also super heart felt and entertaining.
Can you tell that I’m obsessed with their details?
Here’s a fun one for you: some of the best sunset photos of the day happened on top of a parking structure, with the bride in a change of dress. Proof that magic-hour light doesn’t care where you find it. Sometimes the most unexpected spot gives you the best shot of the whole day.
Now that the sun has set, its time to party with wedding cake, a bouquet toss and some party dancing!
